Next week will see 25 young ladies of Roa noke Rapids, all trying for the high honor, in the drive which starts the 1938 Exposition in Roanoke Rapids Augus 18-13.. MOTHER OF FIVE; TRUCK DRIVER, DIE IN SERIES OF WREX An epidemic of highway wrecks struck Hali fax and Northampton counties this week resulting in the death of two persons and injuries to ten others. The dead ure Mrs. John P. Allen, North ampton County, and Houston Bethea, 27, colored, truck driver of Dikon, S. |. The injured are: John P. Allen; Kathleen Al len, 7; Elsie Allen, 10, of Camps Store; Richipond Hardy, 23, Pleasant Hill; James Webb, 18, Garys- , burg; Rover Morris, 21, Emporia; H. B. Conrad, 30, Apopka, Fla.; Glenn Meredith, 27, Rosman Station, Va.; Lofton Rook, Roanoke Rapids; Paul Evans, Roanoke Rapids. Involved in the wrecks, details of which ap pear in separate reports in this issue, were three automobiles, two trucks and one wagon. NEW swimming pool at Weldon, a part of the Weldon Community Center which has just been completed with the aid of Federal funds . . The water is constantly filtered . .
